    There is no setup involved, so you can save the program files in a custom location on the disk to seamlessly run Notesbrowser. What sets it apart from the installer version is that it can be stored on a USB flash drive to carry it with you when you're on the move, and run the app on any PC without previous setup. It doesn't change Windows registry settings or need DLLs. However, it auto-creates and updates files to remember your settings.

    As far as the interface goes, Notesbrowser Lite Portable has a large window with a plain appearance. It takes an interesting approach toward notetaking, as explained in the tutorial section.

    To be more specific, it lets you write as many notes as you want and sort them in multiple boxes, pages and categories. Any number of these items can be created, and you can edit category and page names.

    When it comes to font formatting options, you can apply effects (italic, bold, underline, strikethrough), set the text alignment, indent and unindent paragraphs, create bullet lists, increase or decrease the text size, as well as personalize the text and background colors.

    The format of a note box can be copied to apply it to another one. Furthermore, you enter freeform design mode to alter the layout and size of the note boxes in the current page, as well as to create or delete boxes. Alternatively, you can opt for a preset design for the page layout, depending on the number of note boxes you prefer.

    Worth noting is that each page can have a unique design. It's also possible to focus on a single note by fitting it to the window, undo and redo your actions, and use a search function to track down notes by looking in the entire database.

    Notesbrowser Lite Portable has a surprisingly rich set of options dedicated to creating, sorting and customizing notes. CPU and RAM usage was minimal in our tests.
